Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-surgical procedure that can reduce or greatly diminish the superficial effects of aging and sun exposure with essentially NO discomfort or side-effects.
Before your treatment avoid sun-exposure as much as possible and wear a daily sun block lotion, and avoid cigarette smoking. Your skin care specialist can also inform you on other products that should be avoided. (alpha-hydroxy, glycolics, or Retin A) 2-3 days before and 3-4 days after treatment.
Treatments consist of two separate procedures that occur simultaneously. The first is the application of a fine spray of aluminum oxide crystals across the surface of the skin. The crystals essentially “sand” the surface of the skin and gently abrade and exfoliate the epidermal layer of skin (dead and damaged cells) to make the skin feel very smooth and soft. The second procedure is the application of a suction device to the skin which serves to remove the used crystal material, dead skin and surface skin debris (such as clogged pores and blackheads). In addition, Microdermabrasion also stimulates collagen formation within the dermis, creating improved skin tone. By repeating the process over a period of weeks and months, younger and softer skin begins to move closer and closer to the surface, thus making the skin look greatly improved. This is a gradual process which is painless and non-demanding (absolutely no downtime). After your treatment, most patients experience only minimal flushing or pinkness, which may last for several hours. Clients may also experience slight skin dryness, which is easily controlled with the appropriate skin care products. Even after your first treatment, your skin will have a fresh, healthy, pink glow and a silky smooth texture. Improve

Microdermabrasion provides a firm suction to the skin's surface that not only clears the pores (especially important for acne sufferers) but also improves the blood supply to the dermis thereby enhancing cellular nutrition. In fact, regular treatments have been clinically shown to enhance the production of collagen and elastin in the dermis thereby reducing fine lines and wrinkles and improving the skin's elasticity and resilience. Acne
Part of the Jan Marini skin care management system is devoted to acne. The Benzoyl Peroxide group addresses teen and adult acne.
Benzoyl peroxide is a potent and effective therapy for treating acne. Benzoyl peroxide is currently recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology as being one of the most effective antibacterial agents proven to significantly reduce the presence of P acne bacteria (the bacteria believed to play a primary role in the inflammatory aspect of the acne process).
Acne bacteria thrives in an oxygen free environment and feeds on trapped oil in the sebaceous follicle. It then releases a toxic, corrosive fatty acid by-product that works to break down the follicle walls and encourage the leaks and ruptures that produce acne lesions. By reducing the P acne bacteria colonies, the inflammatory process is minimized and clearing of acne lesions is greatly enhanced. Make the Benzoyl Peroxide products offered at TLC part of your daily routine and finally succeed with eliminating acne once and for all.
Microdermabrasion is offered as well and can benefit clients with acne by reducing blackheads and whiteheads. By gently abrading the skin with ultra fine crystal particulates, Microdermabrasion can reduce unwanted pigment changes that acne may cause. The result is a brighter, clearer complexion with very little redness and no downtime.
A pilot study by Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, Youngstown Ohio conducted a clinical trail on the use of Microdermabrasion for acne. Ninety-six percent of the patients were pleased with their results and would recommend the procedure to others. The conclusion reached by those conducting the study was that it appeared that Microdermabrasion produced a positive effect on the improvement of acne. Laser resurfacing for acne scars involves the use of a laser to remove skin so new skin can form in its place. Laser resurfacing is promising because penetration depth into the skin is more easily controlled with a laser than with other methods. This treatment is offered at our center as well.
